It seems that after she was born in Grong Grong NSW, Olga was raised by her maternal grandmother, Florence Elenore [unusual spelling but Vicky says it’s correct] Ratcliffe, and she was 11 before she learnt that the woman she thought was her mother was actually her grandmother and her “sister” Eileen Florence (later Mrs Haywood) was her real mother.Children:

Thomas Francis Meagher FITZGERALD was born on 20 Sep 1907 in Collingwood, Vic, Australia (son of John Fabian Sebastian FITZGERALD and Sarah Veronica NORWOOD); died on 4 Mar 1976 in Cheltenham, Vic, Australia; was buried on 9 Mar 1976 in Dept of Anatomy, University of Melbourne by Mr R A Ramadge. A search of the Carlton Blueseum website reveals that Tom played for the Carlton Second Eighteen in 1927.
He obviously had an even earlier connection with the club because in May 1926 the VFL cleared him to move from Carlton to Grong Grong NSW, where he got poor Eileen Ratcliffe pregnant, though I don’t suppose that was part of anyone’s original plan.
It appears he played a full season for Grong Grong then was selected for Carlton’s 1927 2nd 18. He played every game that season and in the Grand Final (which Carlton won) he was one of eight players named as best on ground. However, he was also reported for striking.
Tom was selected again in 1928 but only played in the opening match of the season and there is no information on what happened after that.
